Olivia Bell | Age 11 | Undaunted, 2016 Contemporary Solo Olivia Grace Bell (@olivia_thedancer on Instagram) performs Undaunted choreographed by Jamal Story, coached by Jacqueline Porter and Ausia Jones, at YAGP Dallas. Olivia is the 2016 YAGP Dallas Hope Award Winner. ------------- Olivia Bell is an 11 year old studying dance in the pre-professional program at The Dallas Conservatory under the direction of Ms. Jacqueline Porter. Olivia has won more than 20 first place solo titles for her dancing and has been awarded numerous scholarships to dance conventions and intensives. She has been named a national finalist in the After School Awards contest, recognized as one of the Top 15 dancers in the country by New York City Dance Alliance, named to the “5 to Watch” list by Brown Girls Do Ballet Brown Ballerina Blog, and selected and photographed for inclusion in New York Times bestselling author and photographer Jordan Matter’s latest project, “Tiny Dancers Among Us.” She is also an Ambassador for Brown Girls Do Ballet, an organization devoted to helping increase participation of minorities in ballet and providing more opportunities for dancers of color. Her biggest honor to date came in January 2016 when she won the prestigious Hope Award at the 2016 Youth America Grand Prix in Dallas. The Hope Award is the highest honor given to a dancer under age 12 who shows outstanding achievement and exceeds all other dancers in their age division in both Classical Ballet and Contemporary dance. For the past two years, Olivia has spent her summers in New York studying at the Dance Theatre of Harlem and American Ballet Theater. This summer, she has been accepted to and awarded a scholarship to study at the Ailey School, the official school of the world renowned Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre. Although Olivia began dancing when she was just 2 years old, her interest in classical ballet was awakened in 2014 after seeing Dance Theatre of Harlem perform live in her hometown of Fort Worth, TX. Captivated by their performance and inspired to deepen her training in ballet, she auditioned and was accepted on scholarship to Dance Theatre of Harlem’s summer intensive. She loves the art form and is excited to see where her journey in the world of ballet will lead her. In five years, Olivia hopes to still be dancing and focusing on ballet and other forms of concert dance. She would like to attend more summer intensives like School of American Ballet, Pacific Northwest Ballet, and The Juilliard School. She hopes to one day become a professional dancer and choreographer, and perhaps perform in Broadway musicals too! Olivia's words to live by: Talent is God's gift to you. What you do with it is your gift back to God. -Leo Buscaglia
