In today’s challenging condo market, this is happening more often than buyers expect — and the results can be frustrating. In this video, we break down the 3 most important things you need to know if your builder or condo project goes bust: 1️⃣ No Compensation – Most agreements allow builders to cancel under certain conditions, and buyers aren’t entitled to damages for market gains, legal fees, or lost opportunities. 2️⃣ Deposit Refund Only – Typically, you’ll just get your deposit back (sometimes with minimal interest). 3️⃣ You Can’t Force Construction – Buyers have no legal power to compel a builder to finish. Complaints can be made to the Home Construction Regulatory Authority (HCRA), but Tarion cannot force completion either. ⚠️ Bottom line: Pre-construction comes with risk.
