A video collection of McCabe making plays during the 2020-21 WVU season, set to a song that's 1) consistent with tradition, 2) funny, and 3) oddly kinda fitting for my mood after their premature tourney exit yesterday - I liked them a lot but now the weight of the loss is hitting, ya know. Alright time for some real talk. I may have been invested in them because of my decision to pick them to win it all, but I did find the '20-21 roster and performances to be super interesting and I genuinely care about the immediate future of a lot of the guys. Syracuse in the tourney is a nightmare matchup, but they'll obviously still be very disappointed to fall before the second weekend after spending essentially the entire season in the AP top 15. They were literally the only team to take Gonzaga down to the wire in the reg season, and had several huge comebacks as well as a whole lot of tight losses. McCabe in particular didn't have a great year. Shots weren't falling (except free throws) and minutes, starts, points, assists, and shot attempts all hit career lows. However, WVU took another step forward, Jordan cut down on turnovers and made some minor but positive contributions in NCAA Tourney games, and most likely 3 (or 4 if Culver stays) starters will return for an already-very-good Mountaineers roster. It's always impossible to confidently make any sort of overarching concrete prediction for a team's upcoming season before the current one is even finished (and tbh it's not impossible McCabe isn't on the team at all), but I really do think they should be able to push for a top-2 seed in 2021-22 and I can only hope that McCabe finds his shot. Also I'm highly likely to pick them to go deep in my next bracket unless post-Wojo Marquette exceeds my wildest expectations and notches a top-4 seed. So it'd be great if McCabe can earn a somewhat increased role, help the squad win a couple tourney games, and pick up some highlights while he's at it. See y'all next March.
