Today I share my process for coloring comics. I use different techniques for coloring: Watercolor, Watercolor Pencils, Crayola+Heat, Acrylic Painting, and Digitally. Depending on the final image I want to reach, I choose one of these techniques or combine several of them. In this video I will focus in watercolor and a little touch-up with watercolor pencils. Once I have the scanned drawing I proceed to print it. Depending on the technique I will use, I will print the drawing. In this case I need a very light drawing. And since I want to create an atmosphere illuminated with greenish lights, I will print it in a reddish tone that will serve as shading. The tones should not exceed medium high. I want to work on wet paper. I start by going over the shadow areas with dark red. The wet paper allows the dispersion of the pigment. Continuous with yellows and ocher. Syenas. It is the turn of the greens. As you can see, I start to superimpose greens on the previous reds and the tone lowers. Some oranges. I go over the shadows again. The blue helps me lower the tones more. We have already started detailing. Now I tweak the low mid tones. I tint a bit with oranges. I tint with reds. Now I want to do some touch-ups with watercolor pencils. This set has been with me for a long time and it is still almost new. I'm just adding a few tweaks to define some important details. I really like the imprint of the watercolor pencils. As you can see, I have left it without blurring in some areas.
