Classic Old Time Radio, vintage radio shows, the Golden Age of radio, BBC Radio, murder, mystery, drama, comedy, sci-fi, westerns. This adaptation was broadcast in two parts starting on July 4, 2010. P.G. Wodehouse's "Summer Lightning" BBC Radio play (Part 1) throws the listener headfirst into the chaotic, yet charming, world of Blandings Castle. The central figure of calm amidst the storm is **Lord Emsworth**, who is utterly devoted to his prize-winning pig, the **Empress of Blandings**. His primary concern is the upcoming agricultural show and protecting his beloved pig from any rivals, particularly his pig-fancying neighbor, **Sir Gregory Parsloe-Parsloe**. However, a much larger source of anxiety for many of the castle's inhabitants is the fact that Lord Emsworth's younger brother, the Honourable **Galahad "Gally" Threepwood**, is writing his scandalous memoirs. Gally's youthful exploits and the embarrassing secrets he holds about many prominent members of society, including Sir Gregory, have them all quaking in their boots, desperate to prevent the book's publication. **Lady Constance**, Lord Emsworth's formidable sister and the true power behind Blandings, is particularly horrified by the prospect of family shame and conspires to stop the memoirs. She even brings back the "efficient" but rather volatile former secretary, **Baxter**, to assist in this endeavor. Meanwhile, a tangled web of romantic complications unfolds among the younger generation. Lord Emsworth's nephew, *Ronnie Fish**, is desperately in love with **Sue Brown**, a chorus girl, but his aunt disapproves and he needs money. Ronnie, having a history of failed ventures with his friend **Hugo Carmody* (now Lord Emsworth's secretary), hatches a plan to win his uncle's approval: he decides to steal the Empress of Blandings and then "find" her, hoping to be hailed as a hero. He enlists the help of the long-suffering butler, **Beach**. Unbeknownst to them, Hugo is also involved in a secret romance with Lord Emsworth's niece, **Millicent Threepwood**, a match Lady Constance would certainly not condone. As these various schemes and love affairs begin to intertwine, and with the threat of Gally's memoirs looming, the stage is set for a classic Wodehouseian farce, full of misunderstandings, mistaken identities, and delightful chaos.
