The Turin Cathedral or Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist (Duomo di Torino; Cattedrale di San Giovanni Battista), Latin: Ecclesia Sancti Johannis Baptista) is a Roman Catholic Cathedral in Turin, Northern Italy, is the seat of the Archbishops of Turin. It was built during 1491–1498, adjacent to a bell tower which had been built in 1470. The Chapel of the Holy Shroud (the current location of the Shroud of Turin) was added to the structure in 1668–1694. The Shroud of Turin is housed in the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist and not in the Chapel of the Holy Shroud also called “The Dome”. The Chapel, designed by Guarino Guarini, was specifically built to house the Shroud but is now primarily used as a place for prayer and reflection. The Shroud itself is kept in a climate-controlled environment within the cathedral, behind bulletproof glass. Chapel of the Holy Shroud (The Dome) = is a separate, Baroque-style chapel adjacent to the cathedral, known for its distinctive dome and intricate architecture.
