Off Road Challenge (Arcade)

Released in arcades in 1997 by Midway, Off Road Challenge is a racing game. The game is considered a sequel to the 1980s megahit "Super Off Road" and features the signature off-road racing truck driven by namesake and off-road racing legend "Ironman" Ivan Stewart. The gameplay resembles that of the "Cruis'n" series as you can choose from 6 different point-to-point races with the goal of being the fastest to finish, and of course winning. There are at multiple trucks you can choose from, each with different attributes for top speed, acceleration, handling and weight. You can find money during races and earn some after some races and when continuing (you can also add credits between races for even more money) to upgrade your truck. Upgrades are temporary though. You can also buy extra Nitros for a quick speed boost. Unlike other similar games, there is no story/championship/series mode here. You just pick and play one race each game. 2 machines can be linked together for multiplayer. Nonetheless, it was still popular in arcades for the Cruis'n like racing and physics. The game was released for the Nintendo 64 in 1998.
