FLOW THE LABEL SPRING/SUMMER 2016 Collections of Ukrainian-Belgian fashion brand FLOW THE LABEL are often inspired by art, contemporary as well as classical. Last S/S 2016 collection that plays up with the theme of walkings by the seaside, is no exception: it has been dedicated to visual legacy of Eugène Boudin, renown impressionist of 19th century. Eugène Boudin admired the coasts of his native France and loved to paint them. There are series of his works that depict French high society resting by the seaside, and sailors’ wives washing their clothes. Color palette, atmosphere, plots of those paintings — they are all here, in FLOW THE LABEL S/S 2016 collection. His is muted red can be found on midi and maxi summer skirts, marine gray and blue — on denim raglan jackets and wrap dresses. The roughness of coastal sand and soil has turned into patterns on Coco Chanel-style pants and cozy jackets, and facture of watery surface is now a geometrical print on silky tops and blouses. Working class motives are softly incorporated into minimal cut with simple, sharp lines. Yet there’s still a palpable FLOW THE LABEL’s signature intelligent elegance in the collection. Certain ‘air’ is here: the garments are so as if they have been created for walking by the seaside in dull yet warm days, when light breeze and leisurely pace make fabrics flow on the body. There is an obvious retro accent too, the one that can perfectly fit into modern fashionista’s wardrobe. But one can also imagine romantic Scarlett O’Hara and heroines of Atonement and The English Patient movies wearing those clothes. There is also a funny note in FLOW THE LABEL S/S 2016. As well as in previous spring-summer collection, there are prints based on Ukrainian primitivist painter Ivan Semesyuk’s stitchings. His ‘kurkachabaturka’ chicken has covered white and voluminous asymmetric tops.
