Pioneer RT-2022 - The top-of-the-line Pioneer Reel to Reel deck from 1978

This is a 1978 Pioneer RT-2022 2-track reel to reel recorder. It consists of the RTU-11 tape transport, and the TAU-11 rec/play amplifier. Behind the plexiglass lid below the headstack, you'll find a test tone generator, a 5-step EQ navigating between NAB and IEC standards. Also, the bias can be adjusted there. The deck can be expanded with another TAU-11 amplifier, and with the JT-2044T headblock, be transformed in the 4-track/4channel RT-2044. The tape speed is 19 or 38cm/s (7.5 or 15 IPS). The tape with is 1/4". This is the most expensive reel to reel recorder Pioneer had ever produced. It's a very solid build deck, all AC motors, and very solid transport system. It's large, and it's heavy, at almost 30Kg. It also sounds absolutely fantastic ! The recorder in this video was in a very bad state when I received it. The panels on the back showed a lot of rust and scratches, there was water damage, the buttons were all scratched, and there were electronics issues. The wooden side panels has damage as well. After many hours of restoration, it has been brought back to life, inside, as well as on the outside. Inside, all capacitors were replaced with high-quality, ultra long-life Nichicon capacitors, the relay contacts have been cleaned, it has new belts and pinch roller, and gone trough full maintenance, de-greasing and re-greasing/oiling and calibration.
