Don’t overthink about “本音と建前”, culture! Actually, there’s a lot of Japanese who try to say their own opinion directly and desire to do that including me. However, it’s pretty difficult to do that for Japanese, in general, as we have surrounded by environment that force us to go along with others since birthday. But in my opinion, it’s not that everyone think that it’s better to go along with others and hide their opinion, but it is just difficult as they don’t get used to it. So if your own nature is saying directly and not good at saying round about way(建前, tatemae), just say directly! In a lot of cases, it can be your strength here, Japan. In fact, I can tell that Japanese tendency is changing little by little. For example, there’s more companies that look for employees who can say own opinion clearly and have unique ideas rather than those who just go along with others, compared to past. What I want to say is that you don’t have to imitate Japanese completely while they say “When in Rome, do as the Romans do(郷に入っては郷に従え, gounihaitteha gounishitagae). Because I think different personality can be priceless here! 0:11 Outlines of this video 1:23 The reason why I decided to shoot this video about “本音と建前l 3:07 Meaning of “本音と建前” 4:52 Examples of common “建前” 8:21 Advantages of “建前” 12:39 Disadvantages of”建前” 16:15 Disadvantages of saying your opinions(本音)directly 17:01 Advantages of saying your opinions(本音)directly Hi!
