In this video will be going through the process of preparing a new chip break to be used on a plane blade. The process I go through in this video will allow you to prepare your own chip breakers, weather they are old or new, modern or vintage design. Please remember the main purpose of the chip breaker in these bailey metal planes is to strengthen the thin blade to prevent flexing under the lever cap pressure causing chatter, as started in Leonard Bailey's US patent (US72443A) - Improvement in carpenters planes - https://patents.google.com/patent/US7...) Which means it wasn't designed to prevent tear out in these planes, in modern planes with thicker blades preventing tear out is the chip breaker's primary goal.
