American Paint Horse Giving Birth To a Beautiful Foal

Peaches is an American Paint Horse. In this video you will see her giving birth to an absolutely beautiful paint horse filly during the wee hours of the morning. Mostly asleep, we caught Peaches going down on the camera, rubbed the sleep out of our eyes, threw on our pants, and rushed to be sure the maiden mare gave birth to a foal without problems in the allotted “safe zone” for birth. 20 minutes for foal to be through the birth canal and the 1,2,3 rule for the foal milestones - foal to be standing, nursing by hour two, and placenta passed by hour three. As we focused carefully on Peaches and her large foal we quickly tossed out the soiled bedding (her stall floor is covered with rubber matting) and began carefully adding bedding, trying not to disturb her too much. Once she seemed terribly uncomfortable (standing up mid pushing/birth), we were concerned one of several things was happening either her foal was not positioned well, she had a vaginal wall tear, or we were disturbing her… therefore we stopped to focus on the time passing, getting ready for emergency intervention- and getting the vet in the loop. Once everything seemed under control we addressed the lesser important task of fluffing her stall.
