In this self-narrated walk-through of the E Ink booth at SID Display Week 2025 in San Jose, I had to rely on the info-cards because every visit found the staff deep in meetings and no spokesperson free to talk on my video this time. You can find my E Ink related videos and E Ink interviews from previous events here • Charbax films E Ink The tour opens with walls of Spectra 6 panels running the new electrophoretic stack dubbed Marquee, hitting a full-colour refresh in about two seconds without any colour-filter layer, yielding purer primaries and smoother gradients. https://www.eink.com --- Thanks to SEL Semiconductor Energy Laboratory Co., Ltd. https://www.sel.co.jp/en/ for being my Display Week 2025 sponsor. SEL debuts Crystal IO: low-power, high-res OLED & microdisplay tech for AR/VR with foveated rendering at Display Week 2025: • SEL shows Crystal IO: Low power OLED drive... --- Spectra 6 now scales up to a 75-inch module for indoor digital signage; its latest waveform supports partial updates, so a corner clock can animate while the background stays static, keeping power draw in the tens of milliwatts. Marquee, by contrast, is tuned for the street: the pigments remain bistable from −20 °C to +65 °C yet still manage 5–7 s full-screen updates, a spec aimed squarely at DooH installations such as bus shelters and way-finding kiosks. Both platforms deliver 4 096 colours, use Realtek controller silicon, and can be over-driven to roughly 18 fps for short animations. Dynamic surface materials were everywhere. Prisma colour-changing films lit up Louis Vuitton handbags and a wraparound guitar, while flexible Prism panels invited designers to imagine jackets and handbags that morph on demand. Behind glass sat a production-ready foldable e-reader, flanked by standard 6- to 13-inch note-taking tablets from Boox, Supernote and others. Segmented ePaper badges, shelf labels and battery-free IoT tags dotted the stand, some running from a wireless-charging beam that broadcast power across the booth. The ecosystem felt broad: TCL, BOE, HKC, Sharp, Innolux and Samsung showed Spectra 6 light-box displays; Papercast demonstrated a sunlight-readable bus-stop timetable; Digital View drove a 75-inch Akido panel with real-time partial refresh; and Dasung ran a USB-C monitor quick enough for web video. Even ePaper smart glasses appeared, proving electrophoretic optics are inching into wearables. The overall impression is colour ePaper rapidly maturing into a toolbox for formats that range from pocket readers to outdoor billboards.
