Join us on an incredible journey along one of the Czech Republic’s most significant railway lines—the Prague to České Budějovice route, part of the prestigious IV Transit Corridor (timetable line 220). This line, with its rich history and modern upgrades, plays a crucial role in connecting key regions across the country. Originally built as the Emperor Franz Josef Railway, this route has been a vital transport link since its completion in the 19th century. Electrified in stages, the line from Prague to Benešov was modernized in the 1970s, with the rest of the route following suit, powered by two different electrical systems: 3 kV DC and 25 kV AC. This fascinating railway features double-tracked sections for much of its length, with the exception of a few single-track stretches like Ševětín to Chotýčany and Dobřejovice to Nemanice. As part of a continuous modernization effort, sections of the line are being upgraded, and by 2025, it could be the first railway in the country to allow trains to reach speeds of up to 200 km/h! Notably, this line is also the busiest in the Prague area. In early 2024, the stretch from Praha hlavní nádraží to Praha-Vršovice saw an impressive 530 trains passing daily, while the quieter Votice to Chotoviny section handled 90 trains a day.
