Design fault on MacAllister MSHP2800D-2 Shredder from Screwfix or B & Q etceasily corrected for £1. Ware to get spare parts. Design fault corrected with a £1 - 90mm M10 Couch Bolt !. Taken in 4k Note you do this at your own risk Don't forget to get a 90mm full length M10 threaded bolt or coach bolt, the reason for 2 nuts on is I don’t know exactly how much of the cutting plate will be left when it gets to the nuts touching the locking nut, so at that point I will take the end plate off the machine and have a look if there is enough left to take one nut off and carry on using it or to change the cutting plate So once you have got your 90mm bolt screw the 2 nuts and the locking nut on and the machine is running, keep turning the bolt clockwise until you feel it scraping on the cutting block you should now see long thin strands of aluminium in the box, at that point still keep hold of the bolt and tern the locking nut clock wise to lock the bolt in position. Later that day and you have sent a lot threw it or the next time you use it you may have to tern the locking nut anti clock wise and the nut clock wise to take some more shavings off followed by terming the locking nut clock wise to lock it in position. Good look. BOLT STICKING yes just had that experience 31 Mar 21 It would only move slightly in but not far enough for the cutting plate to catch the cutter and would not screw out, so I un plugged it and tipped it on its back tuck the front plate off with the allen key supplied (note the allen screws are fixed to the front plate) I took the cutting block out (remember it cuts anti clockwise) it wont work the other way, took out the cutting plate & cleaned it out, noticed the bolt would now screw in but not out, (as I didn't touch any thing by the nut that holds the bolt in, next time if I want to wont screw it further just jams I am going to tip the shredder on to its front then on to its back lightly taping with a hammer near the bolt to se if it loosens what was stopping it from terming. GETTING THE BOLT OUT !!, The reason the bolt will not come out is all the time it is running the cutting plate is banging against the bolt, this is similar but not as bad as when you rivet a bolt by cutting into the end of the bolt with a saw 1 cut vertical and 1 cut horizontal then hammering the end to stop the nut coming of the bolt, so you are getting this hammering action onto a soft bolt, If it was hardened steal I don’t think this would happen but normal bolts are mild steal, so what's the solution to get the bolt out, you have 4 options Keep turning the bolt whilst (1) filing or (2) grinding the end edge at 45 degrees, Or a (3) grinder cut last 4mm of bolt thread at the end off, then try and unscrewing it with a spanner and WD40 keep turning in both directions for woods and back woods a bit at a time (the nut will be working as a tap) (4) try just spanner only not recommended by me as the nut will then be a lot slacker. Not tried any of the above yet or whether a small grinder will fit in as I have still a lot to take off on my cutting plate, but all should work. NOTE If my bolt is the correct length to use up all the cutting plate, I will not be taking the bolt out, just unscrewing it back to take a new cutting plate. For best video picture playback quality use Google Chrome or Firefox. Set video quality in cog bottom right of video to 2160p 4k. If you find video stops or jumps that’s due to your broadband speed or computer is not fast enough try 1440p HD or lower.
