This video contains medical material intended for healthcare professionals. In this video, we present a clinical case of endoscopic removal of a foreign body in Greta, a 4-year-old, 8.2 kg Dachshund. Cases like this are more common than we imagine, as, in many instances, pet owners are unaware that their dog has ingested a foreign object. Often, the diagnosis is made incidentally while investigating other conditions, as in this case, where an abdominal X-ray revealed a wine cork in the stomach. The foreign body, a 36 mm x 25 mm wine cork, was removed through upper digestive endoscopy using a pediatric gastroscope and a polypectomy snare. The extraction technique is crucial to avoid complications. In this case, it was essential to grasp the cork by its longer longitudinal axis, facilitating its passage through the pylorus and ensuring a safe and efficient removal. After removing the foreign body, the duodenum was examined to ensure no additional foreign bodies or associated intestinal pathologies were present. To improve visualization of the duodenal mucosa and the duodenal papilla, chromoendoscopy was performed, helping to identify any possible abnormalities in this sensitive area. Digestive endoscopy is a minimally invasive tool that allows the removal of foreign bodies without the need for open surgery, reducing risks and accelerating the patient's recovery. This case highlights the importance of endoscopic techniques in managing digestive obstructions in dogs, especially when the owner is unaware of the ingestion of the object. --- Let me know if you'd like any additional edits!
