A question posted in one of my youtube vids was asked about oil leakage on a Yamaha Venture and I suggested cleaning the area up real well and then looking carefully to try and determine exactly where the oil was seeping from. Thru the years of riding and maintaining these amazing touring bikes (have owned 6 of them and accumulated over a million miles on them) I have encountered numerous times that the crush washer behind the drain screw on the Forward Bevel Gear Cover gets over looked for replacement and ends up seeping oil. Hopefully this is the case for the person who asked as it is a simple fix. Not to lead down a rabbit hole but another issue I have encountered on a couple occasions has been when someone uses the wrong length of screw on one of the covers when replacing the cover after a repair and ends up actually fracturing the bottom of the threaded hole the screw goes into. The engine cases are aluminum and a case cover screw that is to long can very easily force its way into the case as it is tightened down causing oil to now seep past that screw. I have repaired that damage on occasion simply by purchasing a crush washer for that screw (after also replacing the screw with the proper length screw) using the same crush washer as the one for the oil drain on the forward bevel gear cover. Hope this helps! Puc
