$500 in Materials to make a $6000 Table

I used $500 worth of materials to make a table I sold for $6000. I don’t do a lot of woodworking or making commissions but I thought this would be a useful case study to demonstrate how a little bit of design thinking can add value. In my discussions with the client I discovered that prices for store bought tables jump dramatically once the tables get to be over 9-feet in length. This DIY dining table for 10 requires a well rounded maker skill set but nothing beyond an intermediate level of ability of welding and woodworking. All of the tools I used can be purchased for less than $1000. I primed the steel table legs with Rust-oleum Rusty Metal Primer and painted them with Rust-oleum Protective Enamel in Gloss White.
