The term “localisation” gained significant attention in the lead up to the World Humanitarian Summit in 2016 and subsequently became firmly established in the humanitarian lexicon. Localisation aims towards a more balanced humanitarian system, where the role of local and national humanitarian actors is more recognized and supported by international humanitarian agencies, donors and International NGOs. The debate on localisation has gained momentum, particularly in the last two years, but what has been done concretely to support the localisation agenda? What practical change has it brought at field level? Which steps are still necessary to reach the targets of the Grand Bargain? This webinar is the second of a two-part series looking at achievements on localisation since the World Humanitarian Summit two years ago. The first webinar, accessible here, featured the two co-chairs of the Grand Bargain Localisation Workstream on the global level initiatives undertaken so far. This second webinar will give the floor to field practitioners, for discussion on how global level commitments can be turned into reality at field level. Our two speakers will highlight some key initiatives that have been supported by the humanitarian leadership in Iraq and in the Syria Gaziantep-based operation to empower local actors, sharing their experiences, challenges and lessons learned. Panellists: Ms. Marta Ruedas, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General, Humanitarian Coordinator and Resident Coordinator, Iraq Mr. Yakzan Shishakly, Chief Executive Officer, Maram Foundation for Relief and Development, Syria Facilitator: Ms. Kate Halff, Executive Director of the Steering Committee for Humanitarian Relief (SCHR)
