Unscripted, rambling review of my bug out bag's communications. Shortwave, AM, FM, VHF, UHF, Police, Fire, GMRS & FRS frequencies all covered with these two radios that combined weigh about 1.5 pounds. The Baofeng handheld is a very interesting radio. EXCELLENT bang for your buck! In an emergency it gives you a very wide range of transmit/receive capability. The Tecsun PL-380 puts the world at your fingertips, and features Digital Signal Processing. I did a TON of research before settling on this radio. BEST shortwave receiver in my opinion, all things considered, in it's price class. I have had it on a few outings now, and it brings a new angle to camping, cooking your spam on the fire and listening to the news from thousands of miles away overseas. KNOWLEDGE is not only power- in a SHTF situation it can mean your life. Without a radio, how would you know to avoid certain areas? I researched these two radios at length, and combined their total cost is less than $100, even with a pack of rechargeable batteries thrown in!
