Shards stands out for its unique approach to vocal music. This creates a rich, layered sound that ranges from soft harmonies to powerful, rhythmic structures. Shards combines choir singing with modern technology, such as electronics and effects pedals, to enrich their sound. Not just great voices, but singers with lots of personality and open minds when it comes to experimenting and trying things out. "Shards 00:00 Lost (a capella intro) 01:38 Thoughts 05:00 Sanctus 07:31 Agnus Dei 11:09 Unrest All songs composed by Kieran Brunt After collaborating with composer Terry Riley in 2016, singer, composer and producer Kieran Brunt was asked by the Barbican to form a choral group for Nils Frahm’s Possibly Colliding festival that summer. Following the success of the shows, Frahm invited Brunt to join him in Berlin to collaborate on choral arrangements for his recent album All Melody. In our Vrije Geluiden Session Shards performs three songs from the album ‘Find Sound’ (Lost, Thoughts and Unrest) and two song from the new album ‘Byrd Song’ (Sanctus and Agnus Dei). new record pays tribute to the Renaissance composer through eight reimagined works by Shards. William Byrd’s devoid Catholicism in Protestant England made him a pariah whose work had to be performed secretly. Kieran Brunt: ‘there’s a real sense of every note and word of text having extreme significance’. His reverence for Byrd’s legacy carries on to the careful ways they tackle the composer’s music anew, over four centuries after his passing.
