Bile duct cancer is a rare disease in which malignant cancer cells form in the bile duct. This cancer is one of the most common cancers in India. People above 50 yrs. Are more prone to develop this cancer. Early diagnosis of bile duct cancer is very important like any other cancer for effective treatment. Risk factors of bile duct cancer – 1. Irritation in the inner cells of the bile duct 2. Smoking or alcohol consumption 3. Liver fluke There are three regions where bile duct cancer can be found – Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma Hilar cholangiocarcinoma Distal cholangiocarcinoma Symptoms of bile duct cancer differ among the patients according to the location of cancer. Jaundice is the most common symptom of bile duct cancer. Other symptoms include fever, chills, night sweats, etc. Ways to avoid bile duct cancer: Avoid smoking & alcohol, maintain a healthy weight and chemicals.
