In tribute to Harry Howorth, a signaller in Z Company, 2nd Battalion, King’s Shropshire Light Infantry (KSLI), who landed on Sword Beach, on 6 June 1944. Retracing Harrys D-Day, in real time, from La Breche, Hermanville, to Périers-sur-le-Dan and finally the Château de Biéville. Using official war diaries, reconnaissance reports and intelligence maps, we set out to locate the German gun battery at Périers-sur-le-Dan, which Z-Company had been specifically tasked with destroying this battery. From there we followed the trail, which was Z-Companys orders to push on toward Biéville, where they were to take up camp at the Château located beside Lebisey Wood. So we carried on after Periers sur-le- Dan, till we found the Château in which Harry slept on the night of D-Day, the 6 June 1944. Completing his D-Day journey in real time, 80 years on, accompanied by his daughter Edna and his great grand-daughter Kerry, was an immense honour and privelege and deeply moving. Following his visit, Harry took time to reflect on his experiences and we share his lasting words, in honour of his service for our liberty and the freedom. Lest we Forget . . ..
