In September 2025 the Swiss Alps hosted one of the boldest trail running events of the UTMB World Series: Wildstrubel by UTMB. Now in its fourth edition, the race has quickly built a reputation as a late-season highlight for runners who thrive on alpine climbs, high passes and long miles on technical terrain. The event is centered around Crans-Montana in the Valais region, with routes circling the Wildstrubel massif and crossing iconic spots such as the Gemmi Pass, Rawyl Pass, and the Plaine Morte glacier. Wildstrubel offers several formats, allowing both elite athletes and ambitious amateurs to test themselves on different distances. The flagship Wild 110 covers around 113 kilometers with 6600 meters of elevation gain, demanding a full alpine odyssey from start to finish. The Wild 70 features 70 kilometers with 4600 meters of ascent, starting from Kandersteg. The Wild 50, about 53 kilometers and 3300 meters of climbing, starts in Adelboden and offers a challenging yet slightly shorter experience. For those looking for accessible formats there is the Wild 25 at 26 kilometers with about 1200 meters of gain, and the Wild 10 at around 12 kilometers, offering a taste of the mountains without the extreme strain. Participation in 2025 reached over 5000 runners across all events, with 4733 official finishers. Completion rates varied by race: the Wild 110 had 1047 starters and 245 DNFs, while the Wild 25 saw 1456 starters and only 9 DNFs. The winners of the 2025 edition were: Wild 110: Robinson Balestriero (France) in 13:01:01 and Andrea Vlasáková (Czech Republic) in 15:20:09 Wild 70: Gian Marchet Schicktanz (Switzerland) in 7:28:32 and Julia Bleasdale (Germany) in 9:00:58 Wild 50: Maxime Pellouchoud (Switzerland) in 4:53:50 and Emilie Bulle (France) in 6:02:40 Wild 25: Mattia Bertoncini (Italy) in 1:58:19 and Sonia Samuels (United Kingdom) in 2:23:57 Beyond the competition, Wildstrubel 2025 mattered because of its growing prestige, the diversity of distances that attract runners of all levels, and the spectacular scenery that makes the effort worthwhile. High alpine weather, glaciers and steep ridges give the event a unique identity in the UTMB circuit. For future participants the key lessons are clear: prepare for altitude, train specifically for sustained climbing and descending, bring proper mountain gear, and respect the cut-off times. Wildstrubel is as much about endurance and patience as it is about speed. The 2025 edition confirmed Wildstrubel as a rising classic on the European trail running calendar, blending competition, natural beauty, and a shared sense of mountain adventure.
