Title: Entrusting our Learners with Artificial Intelligence Speaker: Brian Gin, MD, PhD Associate Professor of Pediatrics Departments of Medical Education and Pediatrics University of Illinois, Chicago As artificial intelligence begins to reshape clinical practice, medical educators face a critical question: How do we integrate these tools without compromising the human-centered nature of teaching and mentorship? We welcome back former UCSF faculty member Brian Gin, MD, PhD, to guide us through determining what the role of AI should be as we move forward. Now at the University of Illinois, Chicago, Gin’s research is at the intersection of entrustment of trainees and AI itself. Join this session to explore the benefits and risks of deploying AI in medical education, including emerging tools like AI patients and largescale AI text analysis. Gin is an established leader in this field who aims to reduce barriers and open collaborations to these technologies through open-source toolkits. Gin aims to "democratize" these technologies through open-source toolkits. He shares frameworks for evaluating AI deployment, offering a roadmap for how we can collaborate freely in this field while maintaining rigorous standards for our learners. Learning Objectives: •Consider the potential benefits and risks of incorporating AI tools into medical education. •Discuss two such AI tools: virtual patients, and AI-based knowledge synthesis. •Describe potential strategies for evaluating AI deployment with learners.
