TOGA Aviation - Take-off And Go Around Mode Explained!

In this video, we are going to talk about the TOGA switches. By the end of this video, you will know what these are and why they are so important. The TOGA switches are located on the Thrust Levers, however, the position depends on the Aircraft type. For example, on the Boeing 737, they are located close to your hand when you hold the thrust levers, and on the Airbus, you activate the TOGA by pushing the thrust levers all the way to the full forward position. TOGA means Take-off Go-Around, as you can imagine you use this mode for taking-off and Going Around. By activating these modes the Autothrottle will provide you with the thrust that is set on the FMC, so, for example, if you calculate the take-off performance and you find out that you need 98% of thrust for that specific take-off, by pushing the TOGA button (on a Boeing 737) or advancing the thrust lever full forward (on an Airbus 320) the Autothrottle if engaged, will set the take-off thrust you calculated and set on the FMC. When activating these modes you not only get the Take-off or Go Around thrust that is on the FMC but, you also change the Autopilot logic to the Take-off or Go-Around logic depending on your phase of flight.
