Wae Rebo Village Flores Indonesia Traditional Village

After a bumpy ride from Labuan Bajo we are finally only hrs away from visiting this much anticipated traditional village called Wae Rebo located in the middle of Flores’ Todo tropical forest. The somewhat steep walk took us rookie hikers 2hrs but experienced hikers would surely do it faster. The views on the way over are pretty spectacular. As we arrive we are greeted by the Manggarai people who welcome us with a ceremony and food and tea&coffee. For day visitors it’s around 200k IDR overnight stay is 325k IDR pp + 50k IDR for the ceremony. The traditional Mbaru Niang houses are a UNESCO heritage site spread over a large area almost on top of a mountain with a stunning backdrop it really has a mystical feel to it. We spent a lovely day getting to know the people and their culture and also making friends with some of the other visitors, all in all it was a beautiful experience both Phil and I are very grateful for.
