Mare Nubium

Il mare Nubium, o mare delle Nubi, è un mare lunare situato sull'emisfero del satellite sempre rivolto verso la Terra, appena a sud-est del celebre Oceanus Procellarum (l'oceano delle Tempeste). Il bacino attuale risale probabilmente al Pre-Nettariano, mentre il materiale che domina le regioni circostanti risale all'Imbriano inferiore. Il materiale di cui si compone il mare risale all'Imbriano superiore. Ad oriente del mare è situato il cratere Bullialdus, risalente all'Eratosteniano e pertanto più giovane del mare in cui è situato. L'estremità inferiore del mare è intersecata dal cratere Pitatus. In questo modello 3d è possibile vedere il cratere Wolf, Nicollet, Birt, Thebit e i grandi crateri Ptolemaeus, Alphonsus, Arzachel, e molti altri. The current basin probably dates back to the Prenectarian, while the material that dominates the surrounding regions dates back to the Lower Imbrian. The material of which the sea is made dates back to the Upper Imbrian. To the east of the sea is the Bullialdus crater, dating back to Eratosthenos and therefore younger than the sea in which it is located. The lower end of the sea is intersected by the Pitatus crater.
