mgk went on Apple Music’s Travis Mills Show. During this podcast interview, mgk talked about his new album "lost americana" and songs on the album. mgk reflected on both his personal growth and artistic journey. During the conversation, mgk described how the positive reception to the project felt liberating. He explained that stepping away from the constant need for external validation allowed him to channel a lighter, freer energy into his work. mgk said that his new album "lost americana" requires a part 2. mgk also talked about the songs on the album, such as "outlaw overture," "cliché," "dont wait run fast," "vampire diaries," "orpheus," "sweet coraline," "indigo," "starman," "tell me whats up," and "treading water." On "outlaw overture," Travis Mills asked mgk about the sacrifices that he's made for his art. mgk said, "That gotta stop though 'cause I wanna do a lot more albums, and you can't sacrifice yourself every project. It's not even about myself. I don't even wanna hurt the others around me. When you're calling your daughter [Casie] from a [rehab] facility on Christmas and New Year's, it's a shameful moment." Regarding "cliché," mgk said, "I'm here to have fun." mgk added, "Life is serious, but it ain't that serious." Regarding "dont wait run fast," mgk said, "That song for sure was... I was kind of reminiscing on Creedence Clearwater Revival Fortunate Son." mgk also claimed that he's been alive for 13,000 years. Regarding "vampire diaries," mgk said, "We didn't have a song that was connecting the last era with this one [lost americana]. I was like, 'We should dive back into our pop punk bag,' even though this album is kind of like a plethora of every genre." So that's why mgk wrote this pop punk song. mgk also talked about the lady who inspired "vampire diaries." "This lady walked by in the sweltering heat with an umbrella, and I was like that's so interesting," mgk said. "I was like, 'We should write a song about the perspective of a vampire.'" Regarding "orpheus," a song co-written by mgk and Megan Fox, mgk opened up about the deeply personal inspiration behind it. He revealed that the track was shaped by the couple’s experience of a miscarriage. "The celestial seed line was particularly from a night when we were mourning the passing of a miscarriage," mgk said. "We [mgk and Megan Fox] wrote a letter to our baby. We burned it outside, and the wind took it, and it spiraled. Ashes were dancing in front of us, and we wept, and we held each other, and we went inside. We just kind of meditated in front of a fireplace. We opened our eyes, and there was a seed inside the house in front of us." Regarding "sweet coraline," mgk talked about the interaction with the rude fan who inspired him to write the song. mgk also said, "What's awesome is that one of my fan pages posted the video of the interaction." Regarding "indigo," mgk said, "Pete Davidson was in the room with me when I was recording that." mgk was happy that Travis Mills caught the bar in the lyric "needles sewed, new clothes, but it's more than it seems." Regarding "starman," mgk talked about how he met Stephan Jenkins from Third Eye Blind and got the "Semi-Charmed Life" sample cleared. Regarding "tell me whats up," Travis Mills gifted mgk a pair of Beats by Dr. Dre Regarding "treading water," mgk talked about how he and Mod Sun made the song using Mod Sun's voice note. 🎥: Full episode on Apple Music: "mgk - The artist talks about the making of lost americana" on The Travis Mills Show #mgk #machinegunkelly #colsonbaker
