At 12.15 am on July 22, four men and a woman from the Uttar Pradesh police forced their way into Mitr, a shelter home for transgender people in Delhi’s Sitapuri. Assisted by the Delhi police, the team was reportedly searching for a trans man named Aditya. Bella Sharma, a trans woman who teaches at the home and was present at the time, told Newslaundry the police claimed Aditya’s parents had filed a missing person complaint. The police team then took Aditya with them in a private vehicle. Six trans women then went to Dabri police station, which is nearest to the home, to find out what happened. There, they alleged, around 10 police personnel beat them. The women sought treatment at Deen Dayal Upadhyay hospital and are now trying to file an FIR. Meanwhile, the police stated that members of the trans community misbehaved with police officials and light force was used to disperse them. Watch.
