Zafrullah Chowdhury (born December 27, 1941) is a Bangladeshi public health activist. He is the founder of Gonoshasthaya Kendra (meaning the People's Health Center in Bengali), a rural healthcare organization. Dr. Chowdhury is known more for his work in formulating the Bangladesh National Drug Policy in 1982. In this informal video taken in his home on 19th March 2020, Dr. Chowdhury tells Shahidul Alam about the genesis of Gonoshasthaya Kendra, and what led to the discovery of the low cost testing kit for COVID 19 developed in Bangladesh, which gives results within 5-15 minutes. News that the Bangladesh Government had given permission to produce the kit, came in while this interview was going on.
