Today we head out into the city with the Viltrox Air 50mm F2 paired with the Sony A7IV for some delicious, creamy snaps on a well-lit (but sometimes flat-lit) day! Most snaps were between F4-F8, sometimes higher to ensure more DoF (but they didn't always end up sharp end-to-end lol) and I usually avoid shooting wide-open; but 50mm kind of gets weird after shooting mostly with a ~35mm lens because it edges you on to use less DoF-based apertures (ie F2 for ex) because it ain't quite enough to fill the frame with everything you want, especially when you're walking round close to your subjects (F8 for ex will just look like other elements in the frame are 'out of focus' at times, even though your intention may have been to have the entire frame in focus). So in this regard it makes you feel a bit 'odd' being somewhere between 35mm and 85mm but makes you pay for it if you get your F-Stops 'wrong' -- 85mm is pretty much mostly useful for blowing out your backgrounds to creamy bokey goodness and having your subjects pop ie use the lens wide-open or close to it -- and then ~35mm is much better suited for F8 and above because it's far easier to have everything in the frame in focus, even if you get a bit too close to your subject, although shooting more wide-open feels more pointless at this focal length because compression is much lower than say 85mm, and bokeh doesn't feel as pleasing for these type of shots in comparison -- at least for street snaps!! Anyhow! Drop a like/sub if you enjoy :) Peace.
