RBI steps up consumer protection. The central bank proposes ₹25,000 compensation for digital fraud losses and unveils draft rules to curb mis-selling of financial products. Digital fraud is increasing rapidly in India. But now Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has proposed a new rule that could refund money to victims of digital fraud — even if the customer made a mistake like sharing an OTP. Under this proposed framework, victims of small digital fraud transactions may receive up to 85% reimbursement (maximum ₹25,000) if the fraud is reported within 5 days.
