https://sub101.link/PB-1000 (affiliate link) Given that I don't have a very big list of subs that I can confidently recommend due to strict performance standards, I spend a little more time with each set of subs I review. SVS sent these out for the 2 vs 1 comparison, and I have covered them well as it is. I truly hated sending them back. For a "quality" ported subwoofer they are compact, yet still have the big sub feel to them, and that includes convincing sub 30 hertz performance. For sure, duals are the way to go, and as a team they left me with plenty of headroom. For graphs: http://www.subwoofer101.com/pb-1000-v... In stark contrast to many brick and mortar subs, rather than starting their taper around 30-40, that's when the PB-1000's start to roll up their sleeves and do serious work. The effect is a big sound. I did not expect them to deliver as much impact as they did, but because of the dual subwoofer effect, they produced more perceived impact and authority than the massive single 15 inch sub it was compared against. Writing this description after I had sent them back, returning to the large single sub, I can absolutely say that a single sub leaves a lot of "holes" in bass. This is not the larger sub's fault, the HSU VTF-15h is no slouch! Peaks and nulls shift as the frequency changes, so even with the most careful sub crawl, you will be missing something. I was surprised at what was missing when I returned to the single sub. Perfect bass is unattainable, but duals allow you to get a LOT closer. Much better coverage throughout the bass spectrum, as the sound waves interact to fill in the gaps. I hope to visualize this effect soon, graphs and measurements do not convey the differences. As far as wife acceptance factor, my wife misses these a lot. She likes the Oak finish as they do not show fingerprints as much as a piano finish would. Certainly, these are much more decor friendly than a larger sub. She absolutely loves the sound. I drew a nearly impossible line in the sand for performance, and I did not expect these subs to land on the good side, a 10" ported sub usually won't deliver the goods this deep. They took me by surprise, and they are the only 10" sub on The List. Performance wise, I tried to find real deficiencies, but ultimately came up short. I just discovered that my own hearing stops between 17-18.5 hertz. Given that these begin their taper at about 21 hertz and remain strong to the very limits of my hearing, there really is little to complain about. Resorting to nitpicking, the dial thing is nearly immaterial, it wouldn't even be enough to warrant a phone call, but SVS has a strong reputation for eagerly correcting even the smallest flaws. There is no Icelandic Leopard-wood. No variable ports. The DSP/EQ is not adjustable (but importantly, it has one), and it comes in one finish that I'm aware of. When your budget increases, you start to see more finish options, more power, bigger drivers, etc...If the target was to deliver the most economical true full range subwoofer without cutting any critical corners, I'd say they nailed it. The PB-1000 seems to be about one thing, true quality bass for the masses, and it delivers as promised. ***** Subwoofers should reproduce quality sound with authority throughout the humanly audible bass spectrum (20-100 hertz). Most do not. I'll tell you about the subs that do so with good manners.
