In 2003Air Force Colonel Philip Shue and his wife Tracy put a deposit down on a house they were buying in Alabama since they were both retiring from the military. The next morning Shue crashes his car into a tree on the way to work at Lackland Air Force Base. He dies instantly and, if it weren't for the gash in his chest, missing nipples and duct tape on his hands and feet, it would have been considered an accident. However, due to his bizarre driving prior to the crash and his straight-on slam into a tree (without braking) , his death is ruled a suicide. His wife was not happy with that ruling. She believed he had been tortured and died in an escape attempt. His fingerprints were not on the duct tape and there was no knife in the vehicle. He had been receiving warning letters that his ex-wife was plotting to kill him to get the million-dollar insurance policy that she would get upon his death. Eventually, a judge ruled that his death was a homicide, but the police department will not change the manner of death nor will they reopen the case. So, what will my analysis of the case conclude? Was this really a suicide or was this a homicide that fell through the cracks? To learn more before the show, watch this 48 hours video, Season 22 Episode 4 "The Curious Case of Colonel Shue."
