Fade into M/S of various girls dressed in Eastern costume dancing in a floor show at Murray's Cabaret Club in Soho, London; some couples are seen sitting at tables by the crowded dance floor. Fade into M/S of five showgirls in summer dresses in the garden of a country house near Guildford in Surrey; they sit on sun loungers and sip drinks through straws; some of them play croquet; M/S of the back of a girl's seamed-stockinged legs as she hits a ball. Commentator says the girls come out here "at regular intervals for much needed relaxation in the open air". At a table in the garden the cabaret club owner Percival Murray sits with the head costume designer and looks at costume sketches and a feathered head-dress. M/S of a woman taking some costumes into a small building in the gardens; inside, several middle-aged women sit sewing cabaret costumes and ornate head-dresses; one sews a skirt in the shape of a roulette table. Various shots as two girls model finished costumes for Percival and the designer; the brunette wears a fishtail gown and feather trimmed hat, the blonde wears the roulette skirt and a pixie hat with a huge pound sign in the centre; she doesn't look too happy about it! Fade into another cabaret floor show scene at the club; various shots of the girls in scanty costumes in what seems to be a kind of voodoo tableau; some girls are dressed as angel/devils with halos, wings and golden head-horns; others shake golden cocktail shakers. The roulette girl enters, followed by two girls in skeleton costumes; very bizarre! Music on the soundtrack is a kind of brassy jazz with an African beat; most of the girls don't appear to be very talented dancers, but the floor is so crowded you don't really notice. Note: on file is a fascinating press release about Murray's Cabaret Club from Kenneth H Bandy, whose PR firm was based at the Windmill Theatre. Cuts exist - see separate record.
