Nuclear engineer and 2023 Miss America Grace Stanke has responded to the heckling she faced from Senator Lidia Thorpe during a pro-nuclear press conference where she claimed that nuclear was “poisonous”. “If that certainly is a fear, I think people should start spending some more time indoors because after all, when you’re stepping outside, you’re getting exposed to radiation. When you’re eating a banana, you’re eating radiation,” Ms Stanke said. “The whole deeper message behind this is that people need to understand where the facts are, they need to understand the science and they need to know where to ask questions.”
