After an absolutely splendid departure from North Platte, Union Pacific 844 heads eastbound into the morning sun with the Trek to Tennessee Tour. We are currently traveling UP's famous "Triple Track" Main, and there is a bee hive of activity along the line today. As we march along past buttermilk curve, the UP 844 actually gets chased down by the eastbound coal drag it chased out of North Platte! This was an absolute surprise we were very fortunate to catch. After the steam train is completely overtaken b the coal drag, we then watch as they bob and weave across different mainlines, and dodging other trains on the way to their first service stop at Cozad, NE.
