We’re back at the cabin; but before the real work begins, we head out onto the ice. This time we’re fishing on Lake Mindoya on Manitoulin Island, one of the largest freshwater islands in the world. The fishing might not have gone as planned, but what followed more than made up for it. Lobster chowder on the ice in the middle of a snowstorm, homemade Nova Scotia tea biscuits, freeze-dried ice cream for dessert, and some unexpected off-grid fun with great people. Later, we test a frozen chainsaw in -30, explore private bush trails, and I explain the truck situation that could’ve derailed everything. Sometimes you don’t catch fish; but you still catch a great day.
