Hike to Małołączniak (2096 m) and Kopa Kondracka (2005 m) | Tatry Zachodnie - Poland

On July 26, 2024, we parked our car at the Dolina Małej Łaki parking lot, about 5 km west of Zakopane. We followed the blue trail directly to the summit of Malolučniak/Małołączniak (2,096 m), which is part of the mountain ridge forming the border between Poland and Slovakia. While the upper part of the mountain is quite "rounded," there are some steep sections during the climb, particularly when crossing the rocky terrain between 1,500 and 1,800 meters. From the summit, there is an amazing view of the High Tatras (Zapadné Tatry/Tatry Zachodnie and Vysoké Tatry/Tatry Wysokie). From there, we followed the red trail eastward along the mountain ridge towards Kondratova Kopa/Kopa Kondracka (2,005 m). Both summits were quite crowded, but the number of people on the trails up to that point was still manageable. Initially, we had planned to climb Wielki Giewont (1,894 m) on our way down from Kopa Kondracka, but this plan was quickly abandoned after seeing the huge line of people waiting at the start of the chain sections. So, after Kondracka Przełęcz (1,725 m), we continued on the yellow trail. Not long after, at about 1,600 meters, Lesley was waiting on a rock to let other hikers descend at their own pace when she suddenly slipped. Her foot got wedged between two rocks, resulting in a complete rupture of the ligaments (which we didn’t realize at the time).
