CM Mohan Charan Majhi launches Kanya Vivah Yojana at Maa Taratarini Temple

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi visited Ganjam for a one-day tour and inaugurated the Chief Minister Kanya Vivah Yojana near the Maa Taratarini temple. He first offered prayers at the shrine and sought blessings for the people of Odisha and the newly married couples before formally launching the programme. The marriages were conducted with Vedic chants by priests and traditional ululation by women, following full rituals. Addressing the couples, the Chief Minister said the scheme is a new public welfare step aimed at stopping the dowry system, empowering women, reducing the marriage burden on poor families, and supporting the remarriage of widows. He said the main goal is to ensure social security and respect for girls. Under the scheme, the government will provide financial assistance of 60,000 rupees, with 45,000 rupees going to the bride’s bank account and 15,000 rupees to the institution conducting the marriage. He performed Kanyadaan for 201 girls and said the experience made him feel blessed.
