Sermon: "Who is the Saint Paul in your world?" Acts 9:1-22, The Fest of the Conv. of St. Paul (2026) In this sermon, I explore the dramatic transformation of Saul of Tarsus—a man who began his journey "breathing threats and murder" and ended it as a chosen instrument of the Gospel. We dive into the "Great Reversal" that occurs on the road to Damascus, where Jesus humbles the powerful. I emphasize that Saul, despite his elite education under Gamaliel and his zeal for the Law, did not truly know the God of the Law until he was struck blind and brought to his knees. I highlight a often-overlooked detail in the text: Saul’s baptism took priority over his physical hunger. Even after three days of fasting, he sought spiritual washing before he broke his fast with food, showing us that our need for Christ far outweighs our physical needs. Finally, I challenge us to see ourselves in two ways: As Saul: Acknowledging that we are all naturally blind and helpless in our sin until God stops us in our tracks and humbles us. As Ananias: Facing our own hesitations to show mercy to those we deem "unworthy." I conclude with a call to action for the congregation in Thunder Bay and beyond: Who is the "Saul" in your life? Whether it’s a coworker, a classmate, or someone you meet on Facebook Marketplace, God is calling you to move past your hesitation and bring the light of the Gospel to those who are currently sitting in darkness.
