What does it take for a quantum computing use case to be more than a slide-deck promise? If you’re interested in quantum advantage, Hamiltonian simulation, quantum algorithms for spectroscopy, or the bridge between industrial relevance and hardware constraints, this talk provides a clear perspective on where we are and what still needs to be solved. Recorded at the HQS Quantum Computing Workshop, November 2025. In this recorded talk, HQS CEO Dr. Michael Marthaler discusses how to evaluate use cases for quantum computing in a structured and application-driven way. The lecture was given in November 2025 during the Quantum Computing Workshop hosted by HQS. Michael walks through how real-world problems can be translated into model Hamiltonians that are actually feasible to simulate on quantum hardware, why interaction structure and connectivity matter for circuit depth, and how rough resource estimates can be derived when time evolution and Trotterization are the core computational primitive. The talk also dives into spectroscopy as a high-potential application area, focusing on nuclear magnetic resonance as a strong near-term candidate and outlining an approach to electron spectroscopy based on effective system–bath models that connect back to real molecular parameters. #quantumcomputing #nmr #spectroscopy #hqs #quantumsimulation #quantumadvantage #quantumchemistry #quantumstrategy
