Back & Beyond - An Oratorio For Brass Band & 4 Soloists ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Stavanger Brass Band - Siddis Brass 2010 Conducted by Allan Withington "The inspiration for this idea comes directly from J.S. Bach`s St Matthew Passion or, in actual fact, any one of the same composers oratorios. The idea of using 4 soloists instead of just one at a time appeals. Especially when they play such an important roll in the proceedings. We choose to call the entire piece "BACH & BEYOND" which attempts to explore the development of the chorale, the influence of J.S. Bach on later music and how indeed the Hymn and Anthem have been used to accompany the changes, developments and conflicts in an ever complex society. Sometimes used to unite different creeds and colours but also as a call to arms. The movements are joined by links, sometimes written out and sometimes improvised."
