WARNING - This is a long video. The Barr's Tungstone is a stonefly pattern with a lot of moving parts - hence the longer video. It is a great pattern to have in your box when a stonefly hatch is coming off the water. This is tied on a larger hook at a size 8, made heavier by both a tungsten bead and lead wire. For tails, we turn to goose biots in a gold color. Three materials will be tied in at the back of the fly - monofilament, crimped flashabou, and mottled black and yellow thin skin. Here, I've dubbed the abdomen with sow scud dubbing in a light tan. Taper the body moving towards the bead, then tie over the top of the abdomen, in succession, the thin skin followed by the flashabou. Tightly wrap the monofilament up the abdomen to create the appearance of a segmented body. Now it's time to turn to the thorax. This will be dubbed with the same color of sow scud dubbing, and two sets of legs are tied in on either side of the hook using grizzly hen hackle fibers. You will also, two times, tie in additional thin skin over the top of the thorax, creating a two layered effect for the wing case. Then finish up with one more round of dubbing to cover your final thread wraps. This is simply an awesome pattern. Take your time, and I think you will have a lot of fun with it.
