This is a true story about "The Headless Corpse" There was a young Hmong boy named Vwj, who loved to set bird traps in the woods during bird season. One late evening, around 6 PM, Vwj and his cousin Kou went to check on the bird traps they had set up 2-3 days earlier. When they arrived, it was eerily quiet, and as Vwj was about to remove the traps, he felt a strange sensation. He turned to look deeper into the woods and saw the body of a Hmong man standing not far away. Vwj couldn't tell where the man had come from or what he was doing in the woods. Curious yet cautious, he moved in closer and finally realized that the man had no head—only a lower body. Confused and frightened, Vwj turned to look at Kou but when he looked back, the man had vanished. Not wanting to alarm his cousin, Vwj kept quiet, and they left for home. A few days later, Vwj’s father, his older brother, and some relatives went to the woods to cut logs for building their home. Upon arriving and preparing to work, Vwj’s brother noticed something unsettling: there were maggots on their blanket, a gruesome sign of death. He chose not to mention it to their father. They began working together, cutting logs and preparing to lift them with a tractor for loading onto the truck. Suddenly, one of the large logs fell and struck Vwj’s father directly on the head. The impact was severe, and he died instantly. This tragic event served as a grim warning to Vwj about the fate of his family, a chilling reminder of the final destination that awaited them.
