Fantastic driving excitement straight from the arcade!" Not the greatest race game and a little bit basic as face games go. It can be fun to play for a while but will feel like a grind if you try to go for all the cars. I start off in Challenge mode which contains four events per track. Forward and reverse point to point courses followed by a three lap race and a drag race. During the drag race you can earn nitro boosts used anywhere else in the game. However these nitro's have to be earned by repeating a specific button sequence shown before hand. The problem with the these is not so much remembering the sequence but the timing which is greatly affected by input latency so the game can decide it didn't see the input. Freestyle mode is up next and this is just a singe point to point race per track in an effort to get the best times I guess. Time is also awarded for doing stunts during a race. Lastly, Exotica mode. This is very much like freestyle mode except you have to do every track in order as well as come first in every race to progress. Completing this mode unlocks Exotic gfx modes which look really funky and probably not an ideal way to play the game. The longplay is long and repetitive with content constantly repeated but I've shown it this way in order to show where most of the car unlocks happen in the game. All the FAQs regarding car unlocks for the N64 game are not entirely correct and some are way off. . I show all three game modes and once shown there is still more to do. Vehicles unlock via miles accumulated so there is a bit of a grind ahead. You can earn miles in any mode and vehicles will unlock at specific points. There is a huge chunk of boring racing cut following the exotic modes showing in order to accumulate enough miles for the Glide vehicle. Some racing is cut after earning the Rail vehicle as well. Throughout the game i constantly switch vehicles in order to show them all. While all vehicles have there own attributes, it doesn't really make a difference which you take, at least until the notably faster ones at the end of the game. For reference, I'll list the extra vehicles and what I have found to be the unlock for that vehicle. There could be other in game events to unlock them earlier. Challenge mode should be completed first as a prerequisite for unlocking later vehicles.
