They Left England and Became Sheep Farmers in Poland - Regenerative Agriculture

A few years ago, Zuzanna Szmidel was a veterinarian living near London with her husband, Hery, who works in IT. They learned about regenerative agriculture around the time their first child was born and became fascinated with the idea of ​​starting a small family farm in Poland where they would raise their children. They chose an abandoned plot of six hectares in Zawiercie, in the Kraków-Częstochowa Upland, which had not produced anything but goldenrod for ten years. They had no family in the area, the buildings were very old and in need of renovation, and the rocky terrain was not conducive to agricultural production. It was a completely new beginning full of challenges that had to be overcome in everyday life and while raising two small children. Within three years, thanks to intensive quarter grazing of sheep and the use of the power of their own hands without the use of heavy machinery, they transform the degraded landscape into a fertile pasture. Zuzanna does most of the work on the farm herself, raising a flock of about 80 sheep of various breeds, while Hery works remotely in IT and helps out on the farm whenever she can. Sheep stay outdoors all year round. Zuzanna and Hery believe that the world is changing rapidly with the development of artificial intelligence, and they see their farm as a long-term investment in a potentially very different future where some professions can be replaced - but not agriculture! Zuzanna believes in the principles of regenerative agriculture so much that she founded a publishing house that translates and distributes books by the American farmer Joel Salatin for Polish recipients.
