On Monday, June 25, 2018, we set out to catch the Juniata Valley Railroad heading through the street trackage in Lewistown. Today would be a quick move, with 2106 taking no cars north through Water Street on their way to Standard Steel. There are no shots at Burnham unless they have a large train, so we waited below there in Highland Park for the JVRR1 to return with 3 cars, including a couple of the neat LEF&C box cars. This morning's move took precisely one hour, having departed the engine house around 10 and returning at 11; the SW900 would then head over to Industrial Park across the Juniata river to finish out their day. Like us on Facebook! / centralpennrailproductions With an automobile-centric society, trains running through the middle of the street have become a rarity. What was once prime real-estate for industrious towns, most apartment buildings and businesses have turned their backs on a means of transportation accessible only a few yards away from their doorstep. Today, we perhaps feel regret for ripping up our public transportation network as roadways and parking areas become increasingly clogged. Despite our transit system being far behind the rest of the world, the United States boasts one of the most efficient and massive freight rail networks in the world, utilizing rails that continue to echo the rich industrial past.
