When I drive in Automobilista 2, one thing I notice immediately is how many cars still struggle for traction even when I turn the traction control all the way up. Coming out of slower corners, I can feel the rear tires trying to break loose as soon as I get on the throttle. Even with full traction control, the car doesn’t completely stop the wheelspin—it just reduces how aggressive it is. I still have to be careful with how quickly I apply the throttle, because if I mash the pedal too hard, the rear end can still step out. Another thing I experience is that traction control in the game feels more like a safety net than a guarantee of grip. The system intervenes, but it doesn’t magically create traction where there isn’t any. If the tires are cold, the track surface is slippery, or I’m driving a powerful car, the wheels will still spin. Instead of fully eliminating wheelspin, the traction control seems to cut power in short bursts, which I can feel as slight hesitation or pulsing in acceleration. I also notice that some high-powered cars in Automobilista 2 are especially sensitive when exiting corners. Even with traction control at its highest setting, the combination of high torque and low-speed corner exits makes it easy to overwhelm the rear tires. I often have to short-shift or feed the throttle in gradually to keep the car stable. It forces me to drive more smoothly rather than relying entirely on the electronic aids. Because of this, I’ve learned that traction control in the game doesn’t replace proper driving technique. I still need to manage weight transfer, choose the right gear, and apply throttle progressively. When I get it right, the car hooks up much better and accelerates cleanly out of the corner. In that way, the traction control system in Automobilista 2 feels realistic, because it helps me, but it doesn’t completely remove the challenge of managing a powerful race car.
